Conference: American Chemical Society National Meeting – Fall 2011

The 242nd National Meeting of American Chemical Society Conference will be held in Denver, CO on August 28th-September 1st. There will be several sessions running in parallel. The sessions that are organized by POLY are advances in polymer composites, aerospace applications of polymers, biomimetic polymers, fluorine containing polymers, controlled radical polymerization, metal containing and metallo-supramolecular polymers and materials, pi-conjugated polymers, polymer coatings for the enviroment, energy and sustainability, and polymers in water purification. In this meeting PMSE division is focusing on the dynamics of nanostructures polymers, function through macromolecular assembly, PET recycling, and porous polymers.

The abstract submissions for these sessions are already over, but the registration will continue until the meeting date. Further details on the meeting can be found on the ACS website and you can access more information by following this link.

Polymer Chemistry poster prize winners at RSC Biomaterials Group 6th Annual Meeting

RSC Biomaterials Group 6th Annual Meeting has been organized by Andrew Dove in University of Warwick. There meeting was held on January 11th, 2001 with more than 65 participants, 18 poster presentations and 10 plenary or invited lectures. Poster prize committee, Sebastien Lecommandoux and Andreas Heise, selected 3 posters to be awarded. The Editor-in-Chief of Polymer Chemistry, Dave Haddleton, congratulated the winners and presented their certificates and presents.

The 3rd poster prize winner was Lynsey Aitken from Strathclyde University and the title of her poster is “Enzyme sensing using gold nanoparticles”.

The 2nd poster prize winner was Nur Nabilah Shahidan from University of Manchester and the title of her poster is “Thermoresponsive cationic graft polymer for colloidal delivery system application”.

AnnHelen Lu, from Universit of Warwick, was selected as the 1st poster prize winner and received a book from Polymer Chemistry. The title of her poster is “L-Proline functionalized polymers as organocatalysts in asymmetric reactions”.

Zing Polymer Chemistry conference

I will be attending the Zing Polymer Chemistry conference in November. The line-up of speakers looks excellent and the location idyllic! The conference, chaired by Heather Maynard and our Associate Editor Eva Harth, starts on Friday 19th November and ends the following Monday.

Let me know if you are also attending!

Polymer Chemistry launch

We celebrated Polymer Chemistry’s official launch event last month, at Macro2010 in Glasgow, UK. During a poster session sponsored by Polymer Chemistry, Editor-in-Chief, Professor David Haddleton, gave a speech introducing the journal.

Wine and cake were then available for the delegates to enjoy.

We would like to thank our authors, referees and readers for making the first few issues so fantastic, and we look forward to continuing the success in the future!
