2016 Journal of Materials Chemistry Lectureship – Nominations are now open!

Now in its 7th year, we are looking for nominations from you for the next Journal of Materials Chemistry Lectureship recipient.

We are pleased to announce that the 2016 lectureship is now open for nominations. This annual lectureship honours a younger scientist who has made a significant contribution to the field of materials chemistry.

Professor Chengtie Wu, Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, China, was chosen as the winner of the 2015 lectureship by the Journal of Materials Chemistry Executive Editorial Board, and will present his lecture at TERMIS-AP 2016 in Taipei, Taiwan from 3rd to 6th September

Qualification
To be eligible for the Journal of Materials Chemistry Lectureship, the candidate should be in the earlier stages of their scientific career, typically within 10 years of attaining their doctorate or equivalent degree, and will have made a significant contribution to the field.

Description
The recipient of the award will be asked to present a Journal of Materials Chemistry lecture, at a conference decided upon by the recipient and the Editorial Office. The Journal of Materials Chemistry Editorial Office will provide the sum of £1,000 to the recipient for travel and accommodation costs, and will present the winner with the award at this lecture. The award recipient will also be asked to contribute a lead article to the journal and will have their work showcased on the back cover of the issue in which their article is published.

Selection
The recipient of the lectureship will be selected and endorsed by the Journal of Materials Chemistry’s prestigious Executive Editorial Board.

Those wishing to make a nomination should send details of the nominee including a brief C.V. (no longer than 2 pages) together with a letter supporting the nomination (no longer than 2 pages), to the Journal of Materials Chemistry Editorial Office by 1st June 2016. Please note that self-nomination is permitted, and you may re-nominate previous candidates.

Poster Prize Winners at IMMS-9

Congratulations to the poster prize winner and runners up at the 9th International Mesostructured Material Symposium, which took place at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, Australia, from 17th-20th August 2015.

The overall aim of the symposium was to foster discussion on developments in the synthesis and characterization of mesostructured materials for a wide range of applications, such as energy storage and conversion, biological technology, catalytic and environmental applications, and gas separation and purification.

Presentation & Poster Prize Winners at Annual Meeting on Photochemistry of Coordination Compounds

Many congratulations to the poster and presentation prize winners at the Annual Meeting onPhotochemistry of Coordination Compounds, held by the Photofunctional Complexes Research Association in Niigata, Japan from the 7th-9th August 2015.

For her presentation on “An Interfacial Europium Complex on SiO2 Nanoparticles for Valence-Controlled Emission System”, Ayumi Ishii (Aoyama Gakuin University) was awarded the Journal of Materials Chemistry A Presentation prize. Ryohsuke Ohno (Hokkaido University) was presented with the Journal of Materials Chemistry A Poster prize for his entry entitled “A luminescent Eu(III) complex: Novel design and synthesis strategies for the extended pi-conjugated system of ligands and their optical properties”.

This annual meeting consists of presentations on a wide variety of topics such as artificial photosynthesis, carbon dioxide conversion, photocatalysis, sensors, photovoltaics and water splitting. Two special lectures were given this year by Professors Osamu Ishitani (Tokyo Institute of Technology) and Tadaaki Ikoma (Niigata University).

Poster Prize winners at FPi-12

Big congratulations to the poster prize winners at the 12th International Symposium on Functional π-Electron Systems (Fπ-12) which took place in Washington, USA from the 19th – 24th July.

Matthias Stolte (Universitat Wurzburg, Germany) and Amir Mazaheripour (UC Irvine) were awarded first place poster prizes sponsored by Materials Horizons and Journal of Materials Chemistry A, whilst the runner up prizes were sponsored by Materials Horizons, Journal of Materials Chemistry B and Journal of Materials Chemistry C. These were presented to: Sahika Inal (CMP-EMSE, France), Nathan Kirchhofer (UCSB), Ana Fokina (Johannes Gutenberg-Universitat Mainz) and Suhyun Jung (Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology). The symposium regularly attracts world-wide participants who meet to discuss their new achievements in research fields. Another symposium, scheduled for 2017 will take place in Hong Kong and will be titled Fπ-13. ISNA-16 poster prize winners

Many congratulations to the poster prize winners at the 16th International Symposium on Novel Aromatic Compounds (ISNA-16) conference which took place from the 5th – 10th July in Madrid, Spain. Recipients of the poster prizes which were jointly sponsored by our journals: Nanoscale, Journal of Materials Chemistry A and C were: Hiroya Oshima (Nagoya University, Japan), Xiao-Ye Wang (Max Planck Institute, Germany), Evan Darzi (University of Oregon, USA), Takashi Hirose (Kyoto University, Japan) and Daniel R. Kohn (University of Oxford, UK).

Our recently appointed Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Materials Chemistry A, B and C: Nazario Martín attended and acted as the symposium Chairman.

The symposium was founded in 1970 by Prof. T. Nozoe, who discovered the first non-benzenoid aromatic compound, hinokitiol, in Taipei. The program of the symposium included the Nozoe memorial lecture, plenary lectures, invited lectures, oral communications, and poster presentations.

Henry Snaith, the winner of the 2014 lectureship, was chosen as last year’s recipient by the Journal of Materials Chemistry Executive Editorial Board.

The award recipient will also be asked to contribute a lead article to the journal and will have their work showcased on the back cover of the issue in which their article is published.

Solar Future 2014 Workshop Poster Prize Winners

A big congratulations to our student and postdoctoral poster prize winners at this year’s KAUST Solar Future Meeting!

Elisa Collado (Imperial College London) and Johannes Wilder (Institute For Applied Photophysics, Dresden University of Technology) were both first place student and post doc poster prize winners with Alexander Hyla (KAUST) and Taesoo Kim (KAUST) as the respective runner-ups.

The meeting took place at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology from the 8th – 11th November 2014 and gathered together some of the main contributors in photovoltaic (PV) research across the scientific community and involved three days of invited presentations and poster sessions, spanning the three major rapidly-emerging areas of “Polymer and Small-molecule Organic PV”, “Quantum Dot PV”, and “Perovskite PV”.

Henry Snaith wins the 2014 Journal of Materials Chemistry Lectureship

On behalf of the Journal of Materials Chemistry Executive Editorial Board we are delighted to announce Professor Henry Snaith is the winner of the Journal of Materials Chemistry Lectureship 2014.

Professor Snaith is the fifth winner of the Journal of Materials Chemistry Lectureship. The Journal of Materials Chemistry Executive Editorial Board chose Professor Snaith in recognition of the remarkable contribution he has made to the materials chemistry field.

This annual lectureship honours a younger scientist who has made a significant contribution to the field of materials chemistry.  Further details of the Lectureship, including the lecture location, will be announced in due course.

Also of interest: You can now read all three of the 2014 Emerging Investigators Issues of Journal of Materials Chemistry A, B and C, which highlight the work of emerging investigators across the field of materials chemistry. There are a mix of review-type articles, Communications and Full Papers, as well as Profile articles showcasing the authors.
