2015 Soft Matter Lectureship winner Lucio Isa invited speaker at APS March Meeting 2016

2015 Soft Matter Lectureship award winner Professor Lucio Isa (ETH Zürich) is an invited speaker at the American Physical Society March Meeting 2016, to be held on 14–18 March in Baltimore, USA.

Lucio’s talk “Soft particles at fluid interfaces: wetting, structure and rheology” will begin the “Soft Matter at Interfaces (Particles)” focus session, sponsored by the Topical Group on Soft Matter (GSOFT) unit of the APS and chaired by Soft Matter Editorial Board Chair Professor Michael Rubinstein.

Soft Matter Prize Winners at the 27th Symposium of the Research Group on Polymer Gels

Congratulations to Yuto Jochi and Nobuyuki Watanabe who both won Soft Matter sponsored prizes at the 27th Symposium of the Research Group on Polymer Gels, The Society of Polymer Science, Japan held at Tokyo University on 18–19 January 2016.

The Soft Matter Poster Award was won by Nobuyuki Watanabe (not pictured), who is based at Tokyo University of Science, for his poster Probe diffusion in Polymer Solution and Gels.

The Soft Matter Presentation Award was awarded to Yuto Jochi from Nagoya University for his presentation One-pot Synthesis of Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) Gels with Homogeneous Polymer Network Structure.

We thank Mr Watanabe and Mr Jochi for their excellent contributions and we look forward to hearing more about them in the future!

CompFlu-2016

CompFlu-2016 is an international meeting for researchers in the interdisciplinary area of complex fluids or soft matter, taking place 2-4 January, 2016 in Pune, India.

CompFlu meetings have been held in India since 2002, and provide a forum for soft matter researchers from academia, government research laboratories and industry to come together.

It will run back-to-back with the Indo-US Workshop on Nanoparticle Assemblies (at CSIR-NCL, Pune from 4-6 January, 2016) and the Faraday Discussions on Nanoparticle Assemblies (IITB, Mumbai from 7-9 January, 2016.

CompFlu-2016 will have total 18 sessions, with 6 talks per session and each session will be chaired by a session chair. Click here for the Scientific programme including the names of session chairs and the session themes covering nearly all of soft matter.

Announcing the Active and Adaptive Materials Conference, New York City, USA

The CUNY Advanced Science Research Center’s Nanoscience Initiative will focus on active and adaptive nanomaterials for its latest symposium on October 22^nd and 23^rd, 2015 at CUNY’s Advanced Science Research Center. In addition to presentations from Internationally-recognized leaders in nano-molecular chemistry, there will be contributed talks, opportunities to tour the facility and a poster session to be held in the ground floor lobby.

Recent Appointees in Materials Science 2015 Conference (RAMS2015)

We are delighted to announce that the Recent Appointees in Materials Science 2015 Conference (RAMS2015) will be held at the University of Warwick on 16-17^th September 2015.

Deadlines and dates

Registration will open shortly so be sure to sign up to this essential meeting before 1^st September 2015! The cost of registration is £125 for accommodation and meals, including the conference banquet at Warwick Castle. A reduced rate of £70 is offered for those not requiring accommodation.

Abstract submissions are now being accepted for oral and poster presentation but make sure you submit your abstracts by the deadline on 30^th June 2015.

Bursaries

A small number of bursaries are available for those with limited travel budgets and will be assessed on an individual basis. Enquire about bursaries here.

2015 International Polymer Colloids Group Conference

Structured Soft and Biological Matter

We are pleased to announce the Structured Soft and Biological Matter one-day symposium which will be held at Durham University, UK on 9th June 2015.

Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Soft Matter, the symposium will feature thought-provoking talks from members the Soft Matter Editorial Board, and will contain two theme sessions: one focussing on the chemistry, physics and dynamics of condensed polymer rings, and the second on nanostructured soft materials.
