Themed issue on portable instrumentation and point of care technologies now published

The new themed issue for Analytical Methods dedicated to showasing the latest research in portable instrumentation and point of care technologies is now published.

Guest Edited by Professor Zheng Ouyang (Purdue University, USA) and Professor Jean-François Masson (Université de Montréal, Canada) this themed issue highlights the most outstanding work in the area of portable instrumentation and point of care technologies, and also provide some insight into the newly emerging work in this exciting area of research.

6th Workshop on Microfluidics, State University of Campinas, Brazil

Invited keynote talk “Lab, Cells and Organ on a Chip” by Dr. Albert van den Berg (University of Twente, The Netherlands)

The 6th Workshop on Microfluidics was held at the Convention Center of UNICAMP (State University of Campinas) in Campinas, Sao Paulo (Brazil), from 20-22 July, 2016. Since 2011, the workshop has brought together young students, researchers, and companies from different states of Brazil to discuss topics related to fundamentals, fabrication technologies, innovations, and applications in microfluidic science. This field has been spread out around different regions of Brazil presenting outstanding contributions for microfabrication and microfluidic technologies.

The event was supported by the Royal Society of Chemistry for the fourth time. Prof Dosil P. de Jesus (UNICAMP), member of the 6th Workshop on Microfluidics scientific board, presented the poster competition awards, sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Lab on a Chip and Analytical Methods journals.

The winner of the Analytical Methods Poster Competition was Gabriela B. Almeida, from State University of Campinas, for her work “Microfluidic Devices Combining Dielectrophoresis Trapping and Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy”.

Gabriela F. Giordano, from The Brazilian Nanotechnology National Laboratory (LNNano), Campinas, was the winner of the Lab on a Chip Poster Competition for her work “Gravity-Assisted Distillation on a Chip: a Novel Concept for Sample Preparation in Microfluidics”.

Call for Papers – Ambient Mass Spectrometry themed issue

Analytical Methods is delighted to announce a call for papers for its latest themed issue on the topic of Ambient Mass Spectrometry.

Guest Editors: Facundo M. Fernández (Georgia Institute of Technology, USA) and Juan F. Garcia-Reyes (University of Jaen, Spain)

Deadline for Submission: 3rd March 2017

The purpose of this issue is to highlight the most outstanding work in ambient mass spectrometry, addressing fundamental studies and applications of these methodologies, and also to provide some insight into the newly emerging work in this important area of research.

Analytical Methods is the home of early applied demonstrations of new analytical methods with clear societal impact. The journal is one of the fastest growing general analytical journals and is published every two weeks by the Royal Society of Chemistry on a not-for-profit basis; more information about Analytical Methods can be found online. Publishing 48 issues per year, the journal will move to electronic only in 2017.

Introducing new Analytical Methods Associate Editor Professor Juewen Liu

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Juewen Liu as our newest Associate Editor on the Editorial Board.

Professor Liu is Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo, Canada and is an expert in nanotechnology, targeted drug delivery and nanomedicine. He has a particular interest in using DNA and lipids as functional polymers and building blocks to interface with nanoparticles and hydrogels utilised for bioanalytical techniques. Applications include detecting heavy metals instantly in water samples and targeted drug delivery.

We welcome Juewen Liu and his expertise to the Analytical Methods Editorial Board as Associate Editor alongside our nine existing Associate Editors. This appointment strengthens the Editorial Board, with all papers handled by an expert in the field. Submit your paper to Professor Liu today!

Call for Papers: Themed issue on the analysis of microplastics in the environment

You are invited to contribute to the upcoming Analytical Methods themed issue showcasing the latest discoveries and developments in the analysis of microplastics in the environment.

Guest Edited by Professors Richard Thompson (Plymouth University, UK), Fiona Regan (Dublin City University, Ireland) and Chelsea Rochman (University of California Davis, USA) this upcoming themed issue will highlight the most outstanding work in the analysis of microplastics in the environment, and also provide some insight into the newly emerging work in this important area of research.

Microplastics, small pieces of plastic litter, have been reported in marine habitats worldwide and are present in a range of diverse media (e.g., sediment, water, biota). Because microplastics have only recently been described, the methodology to extract, quantify and characterize the debris remains inconsistent. Increasingly, management agencies and academic scientists are calling for harmonization of methods so that data can be compared and/or synthesized across studies.

Submitted papers can be based on oral or poster presentations given at the meeting
There will be no upper limit to the number of papers an author can submit
All submissions will be subject to initial assessment and peer review in the usual manner and must meet the usual standards and requirements for the journal
