Synthetic Reaction Updates: new for 2015

The start of 2015 sees change afoot for two of our bibliographic databases: Catalysts & Catalysed Reactions and Methods in Organic Synthesis. To respond to the growing interdisciplinary nature of research in the chemical sciences, we have discontinued these titles and merged them into a new product – Synthetic Reaction Updates.

Synthetic Reaction Updates is a literature updating service keeping you up to date with recent developments in synthetic organic chemistry. Its scope is all synthetic chemistry, with a focus on organic chemistry and interesting transformations of functional groups.

With our new platform, external editors – your peers in the community – are choosing content; so you can be sure that Synthetic Reaction Updates will include the most important and exciting reactions published across a wide range of primary resources in the recent scientific literature.

The updates are presented as easily readable reaction schemes and are also searchable by topic and reaction type (from a list). Plus e-alerts can now be tailored by reaction type. Even better, we do the hard work: searching the literature for you and highlighting the best content. Who knows, with serendipitous discovery, we could send you things you didn’t know you were looking for!

Synthetic Reaction Updates is now live, so make sure you pay our new web pages a visit and sign up to weekly or monthly alerts, tailored for your scientific interests.

Royal Society of Chemistry acquires MarinLit

We announced some exciting news today: we signed an agreement on Tuesday 17th September to acquire MarinLit, a database dedicated to Marine Natural Products research. We are delighted with this acquisition. This database was established in the 1970’s by two MNP Professors John Blunt and Murray Munro at the University Of Canterbury in New Zealand. It was designed as an in-house system to fulfil the needs of the University of Canterbury Marine Group and over the last 25 years John, Murray and their colleagues at the University of Canterbury have developed the leading Marine Natural Product database, a powerful tool in support of the varied areas of MNP research.

We are very excited to welcome MarinLit into our portfolio. It is used by marine natural products scientists around the world and provides an excellent strategic fit with the rest of our publishing portfolio, expands our natural product portfolio which includes Natural Product Reports and Natural Product Updates, and will complement existing products such as ChemSpider.

We are looking forward to working with John and Murray over the next 30 months to manage this transition and continue to develop MarinLit’s future. We will continue to support and enhance MarinLit, our first development will be to produce a web based version, which will be ready in early 2014.

RSC Databases become online-only

RSC Publishing is committed to disseminating chemical science information in the most relevant and timely way possible.

Print issues of the RSC’s databases have become less and less valuable to our readers, therefore our databases will be available online only from January 2013.

RSC databases provide rapid and cost-effective access to key developments in the field, so free up your shelves and enjoy the dynamic search capabilities, fast indexing and cutting-edge content of RSC databases online:

(NB. Print-only database Chromatography Abstracts is ceasing publication at the end of 2012 and will not be available for renewal. All Chromatography Abstracts content will still be accessible online, as part of Analytical Abstracts.)
