UKSB 2016

The UK Society for Biomaterials will be holding their 15^th annual conference from the 30^th June – 1^stJuly at the University of Westminster, London.

Journal of Materials Chemistry B and Biomaterials Science will be providing sponsorship in the form of a poster prize certificate and a year’s free access to the journal.

Professor Ipsita Roy from the University of Westminster is organising the conference and has included some special features for this year which are below:

A dedicated Larry Hench session;
ReBiostent session (an EU FP7 project); (on biodegradable drug eluting stents)
KTN session dedicated to the industry/clinicians and
A dedicated cell oriented session for TCES/ECPS members.

Professor Roy intends to promote a ‘varied experience of both excellent research in the area of biomaterials including state of art, innovative work with synthetic and natural polymers, complemented with their application in the production of near to market products including medical devices, tissue engineering scaffolds and controlled delivery constructs’. BiTERM 2016

The Society for Biomaterials and Artificial Organs (SBAOI) is one of the leading societies in India promoting healthcare related research. The annual meeting of SBAOI India has over the years become one of the premier biomaterials & biomedical related conferences in the country, and provides a great opportunity for professional development & networking in the field. This year, the annual conference BiTERM-2016 is being organized by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi at New Delhi over April 15 – 17, 2016.

The European Chapter Meeting of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society 2016 (TERMIS-EU) will be taking place from 28 June to 1 July 2016 at Uppsala Concert and Congress in Uppsala, Sweden.

The theme of the conference will be “Towards Future Regenerative Therapies” and will cover the latest advances in biomaterials, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. One-day meeting on Self-Assembling Materials for Biomedicine

We are pleased to announce the RSC Faraday Division sponsored one-day meeting on Self-Assembling Materials for Biomedicine, taking place on 14th April 2016 at Shinfield Grange, Berkshire, UK.

This meeting will bring together researchers using polymers and biomaterials in several applications relevant to healthcare – specifically in the fields of tissue engineering, regenerative medicine and drug delivery. Different approaches relying on self-assembly of polymers, peptides and other biomaterials to create novel nanostructures with biomedical activity will be discussed by prominent researchers in the field presenting their state-of-the-art findings. Biomaterials Science awards best student talk prize at the 37th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Biomaterials

Congratulations to Yuto Amano, a student in the Michiya Matsusaki group at Osaka University, Japan, who was awarded the Biomaterials Science award for the best student oral presentation at the 37th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Biomaterials.

The meeting was held on 9-10th November 2015, in Kyoto, Japan and Yuto was given the award by Professor Yasuhiko Tabata of Kyoto University and Japanese Society for Biomaterials Committee Chair.

Polymers in Medicine and Biology

We are pleased to announce the Polymers in Medicine and Biology meeting to be held in Sonoma Wine Country, California, USA between September 14 – 17, 2015.

The meeting, co-organised by Buddy Ratner (University of Washington, USA), Kathryn Uhrich (Rutgers University, USA) and Judy Riffle (Virginia Tech, USA), will cover a broad range of topics over the 4 days, including advances in drug delivery, novel polymeric biomaterials, surfaces and biointerfaces, and implants and implantable materials.

The programme features a range of top speakers including Biomaterials Science Editor-in-Chief Phil Messersmith, Ali Khademhosseini, Joseph DeSimone, Martina Stenzel, David Grainger and Yukio Nagasaki.

Organ-on-a-Chip World Congress & 3D-Printing in the Life Sciences

Biomaterials Science is pleased to announce that the Organ-on-a-Chip World Congress & 3D-Printing will be held at Wyndham Boston Beacon Hill in Boston, USA on the 8^th– 9^th July 2015.

Themes and topics

The 3D-printing field is expanding exponentially and it is starting to impact the life sciences arena. The current interest in this space is the use of various bioinks to “print” parts of tissues in the goal and hope to bioprint organs as well as body parts in the future for regenerative medicine and other medical applications.

This conference explores 3D-printing in the life sciences through presentations from academic researchers as well as industry participants. Several companies involved in bioprinting and bioinks will be exhibiting at this conference. The companion conference track explores Organ-on-a-Chip/Body-on-a-chip, which employs the use of microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip (LOAC) technologies to build “cell clusters in 3D-format” in functionally-relevant patterns. These patterns enable cellular function to be recapitulated ex vivo and has wide-ranging potential for drug discovery and development applications in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

Recent Appointees in Materials Science 2015 Conference (RAMS2015)

We are delighted to announce that the Recent Appointees in Materials Science 2015 Conference (RAMS2015) will be held at the University of Warwick on 16-17^th September 2015.

Deadlines and dates

Registration will open shortly so be sure to sign up to this essential meeting before 1^st September 2015! The cost of registration is £125 for accommodation and meals, including the conference banquet at Warwick Castle. A reduced rate of £70 is offered for those not requiring accommodation.

Abstract submissions are now being accepted for oral and poster presentation but make sure you submit your abstracts by the deadline on 30^th June 2015.

Bursaries

A small number of bursaries are available for those with limited travel budgets and will be assessed on an individual basis. Enquire about bursaries here.
