Last week saw the Dalton Younger Members Event (DYME) held at the University of Bath. This is a free biennial event designed to support PhD students and post-doctoral researchers within the Inorganic community, providing presentation and networking opportunities for early career researchers in a relaxed and friendly setting.

The event was organised by Dr Jennifer Garden (University of Edinburgh) and Emma Sackville (University of Bath), the post-doctoral and PhD representatives of the RSC Dalton Division, and featured plenary talks by Robin Bedford, Rebecca Melen, and Geoff Spikes as well as a packed schedule of oral and poster presentations by PhD and post-doctoral researchers.

Dalton Transactions was on hand to offer prizes for the best oral and poster presentations. The winners were:

DYME alternates years with the Meeting of Inorganic Chemists Recently Appointed (MICRA) which will be hosted by Rebecca Melen next year at Cardiff University.

The RSC library at Burlington House recently hosted the Dalton Division Southern Regional Meeting. Organised by Professor Manfred Bochmann, Dr John Fielden, and Dr Joseph Wright from the University of East Anglia, the Meeting provided an opportunity for PhD and post-doctoral researchers from ten local institutions to exchange ideas and research results on all aspects of coordination, inorganic, organometallic, and bioinorganic chemistry. Dalton Transactions‘ Deputy Editor, Mike Andrews, was on hand to present poster prizes. Congratulations go to:

Lucy Currie, from University of East Anglia, for her poster Thiol Triggered Photodeauration and Reductive Elimination from Gold(III) Pincer Complexes		Jonathan Robson, from Imperial College London, for his poster Water-soluble ruthenium vinyl probes for rapid fluorescence visualisation of CO in cells

The joint 21^st biennial European Chemical Vapor Deposition conference and the 15^th International Baltic Conference on Atomic Layer Deposition was held recently at Linköping, Sweden. The conference boasted a series of international renowned invited speakers, as well as a full schedule of oral and poster presentations by graduate and post-doctoral researchers on wide range of topics. Three such researchers were awarded Dalton Transactions poster prizes. Congratulations go to:

Peter Kubiak, working at the University of Bath, for the poster Deposition of Calcium Sulfide Based Materials via AA-CVD
	Francesca Visentin, working at the University of Padova, for the poster Morphological, structural and tribocorrosion behaviour of TiO2 MOCVD coating on Ti substrates with different morphology
Andreas Werbrouck, working at Ghent University, for the poster PE-ALD of lithium aluminum silicon oxide solid electrolyte layers using LiHMDS

Registration is now open for the Universities of Scotland Inorganic Chemistry Conference (USIC) 2017. The conference brings together inorganic chemistry postgraduates from Scottish universities along with Newcastle and Durham. This year the conference is to be held over two days, 29^th – 30^th August at the University of St Andrews.

Registration is now open for the RSC Coordination and Organometallic Chemistry Discussion Group Meeting. The group is devoted to supporting the scientific interests of researchers involved with any aspect of coordination and organometallic chemistry as broadly defined. This year the meeting is being held at Lancaster University, 14^th – 15^th September. Featuring internationally renowned speakers, including:

The programme is open to additional speakers, with contributions from younger members of the inorganic community being particularly encouraged. To be considered for a presentation, please submit your request with an abstract for consideration by the organising committee.

The 2016 Journal Citation Reports® have just been released and we are pleased to  announce that Dalton Transactions received an Impact Factor of  4.029.

You are cordially invited to the 3rd Southern Dalton Meeting in Burlington House on 28 June, the regional meeting on all aspects of coordination, organometallic and inorganic chemistry

This meeting is in particular directed at PhD students, postdocs and younger members of staff and provides an ideal opportunity to present new results and to get to know one another in a congenial and informal atmosphere, in the pleasant surroundings of the RSC Library Suite. There will be a poster and talk competition, with sponsored prizes for the best contributions.

The latest International Symposium on Advancing the Chemical Sciences (ISACS) was held recently in Manchester, UK, and focused on Challenges in Inorganic Chemistry. The conference covered all aspects of inorganic chemistry, including organometallic, coordination, main group, bioinorganic, and materials chemistry, and boasted a great line-up of internationally-renowned plenary speakers.

Professor Richard Layfield, Conference organizer and Dalton Transactions Associate Editor, presented poster prizes. The winners of the Dalton Transactions poster prizes were Nikolaos Tsoureas and Monojit Ghosal Chowdhury. Nikolaos is a post-doctoral research associate, working with Professor Geoffrey Cloke at the University of Sussex, UK. He presented a poster entitled “Synthesis and reactivity of syn-bimetallic titanium hydrides“. Monojit is a PhD researcher in the group of Professor Sundargopal Ghosh at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, India, and presented a poster entitled “Electron precise diborane units stabilized in the coordination sphere of group 5 transition metals: A new outcome“. The winners are pictured below with a Chemistry World poster prize winner Jasmine Cross who is working towards a PhD with Dr James Walton at Durham University, UK.

The 1^st Applications of Photoactive Coordination Compounds conference, a preconference of the 22^nd International Symposium on the Photophysics and Photochemistry of Coordination Compounds, will be held July 5^th to the 7^th in St Andrews, UK.

The conference website is open for registration and abstract submission. Poster abstract submission closes May 1^st, General registration closes June 2^nd.
