RSC Publishing Platform reaches the one million milestone

The one millionth paper Controlled assembly of plasmonic colloidal nanoparticle clusters by José M. Romo-Herrera, Ramón A. Alvarez-Puebla and Luis M. Liz-Marzán.

This seven figure milestone was reached as the RSC’s exceptional range of peer-reviewed journals, magazines, books, databases and publishing services to the chemical science community more than doubled in output in the last three years.

Royal Society of Chemistry editorial director James Milne said: “Today marks a significant landmark for the RSC Publishing Platform. Delivering the millionth record, a paper published in the RSC journal Nanoscale, demonstrates not only the significance of the RSC in terms of disseminating high-quality research content worldwide but also with many millions of article downloads each year, the value researchers place on being able to access this content through our new publishing platform.” In the last four years RSC Publishing has gone from being the fifth largest publisher in chemistry to challenging Wiley in third place.

“This incredible growth, including launching 10 new journals and more than doubling the number of high impact papers published, seems set to continue into 2011,” added James. “In addition to growing in scale, the quality of the RSC Portfolio remains at the top of the field. More than 90% of the RSC’s 30 journals have an impact factor over 3.0 – a feat no other publisher can match. This high quality portfolio is attracting more and more submissions from a truly international research community, all supported by a highly qualified editorial team providing exceptional customer service to the journal authors. Similar developments are taking place with the book’s portfolio with a record 85 books published last year alone, most also available as ebooks.”

The new platform, providing powerful, fast access to journals, books and databases from RSC Publishing, provides access to more than one million articles, papers and database records using one simple interface where results are refined through intuitive filters.

Professor Luis M. Liz-Marzan, from the University of Vigo in Spain and lead author of the one millionth paper, said he was delighted with the achievement and explained why he chooses RSC publishing to promote his work: “I publish in RSC journals because they guarantee high quality standards and widespread readership. I am delighted that one of my papers has become RSC’s millionth paper.”

Moving Highlights

The free RSC Publishing supplements Highlights in Chemical Science, Highlights in Chemical Biology and Highlights in Chemical Technology are moving.

From January 2011, all online news articles will be published on the Chemistry World news page. They will still be free for everyone to access. Plus, a selection of the content will be published in print as part of the Research section of Chemistry World. The original RSC Publishing research, on which the articles are based, will be free for a limited time.

Issue 12, 2010, will be the final issue of each of the three supplements. All published issues will be freely accessible from the RSC website.

Originally launched back in 2004 to provide a news service drawing together coverage from all RSC publications, the supplements have provided a vehicle for wider promotion of the most cutting-edge science published in RSC journals.

By moving to Chemistry World, articles will have the opportunity to reach even wider audiences.

Make sure you keep in touch with the latest RSC Publishing research news by following us on Twitter (ChemWorldSci, ChemWorldBio or ChemWorldTech) or by signing up for the Chemistry World daily, weekly or monthly alert.

International Symposia on Advancing the Chemical Sciences (ISACS) 2011

After a successful introduction in 2010, the International Symposia on Advancing the Chemical Sciences (ISACS) is set to return in 2011. Continuing its support of the RSC flagship journal Chemical Science, this significant new global symposia series is ambitious in its scale and coverage.

The second three symposia, like ISACS 1-3, will be held on three continents, over three separate weeks and have already attracted support from some of the leading names in the chemical sciences.

– ISACS4: Challenges in Renewable Energy
– ISACS5: Challenges in Chemical Biology
– ISACS6: Challenges in Organic Materials & Supramolecular Chemistry

Professor Tianquan Lian, from Emory University, Atlanta, said about the ISACS2 meeting: “The scientific content of the conference was of the highest quality and the hospitality was just superb. I have already told my colleagues about this wonderful conference and the new journal”.

Each ISACS event will feature a single stream of plenary lectures complemented by oral presentations and extensive poster sessions with plenty of time dedicated to networking. The chance for young researchers to present their work alongside some of the leading and emerging names in the field is an opportunity not to be missed.

Sign up for news updates and find out more at www.rsc.org/isacs.
