The following news item about new journal Toxicology Research has just been released:

Academic and industrial researchers in the field of toxicology will have a new option for the publication of their research in 2012, with the launch of Toxicology Research. The journal will be published in partnership with the British Toxicology Society and the Chinese Society of Toxicology.

Announcing the launch, James Milne, acting Managing Director of Publishing at the RSC, said:  “We are delighted to support the toxicology research community with this new journal, published in partnership with both the BTS and CST.  By providing authors with exceptional service through the submission and publication process, and providing free access to readers for the first two volumes, we anticipate Toxicology Research will quickly become preeminent in the field.

“The RSC prides itself in publishing journals of exceptional quality, relevance and timeliness, and Toxicology Research, with the editorial team involved, will certainly be in a good position to achieve this for the toxicology community”.

Toxicology Research will be a multidisciplinary journal covering both the fundamental and applied aspects of toxicology, including drug toxicity, food toxicity and their mechanisms, responses and risk/safety evaluation.  The journal opens for submissions on 1st December, and the first issue will be published at the end of May 2012.

Professor Nigel J Gooderham, Editor-in-Chief, comments “It is a privilege and honour to be invited to work with the Royal Society of Chemistry on the launch of this new publishing venture.  Current research in toxicology attempts to understand and explain biological response to noxious agents and draws upon the physical, biological and medical sciences.  Therefore the scope of Toxicology Research will be inclusive rather than specialist with the emphasis on publishing the highest quality toxicological science, irrespective of discipline.”

Authors submitting to Toxicology Research will benefit from rapid peer review and publication, with no page charges.  Authors have the option of publishing their research as an Accepted Manuscript*, and Open Access publication is also available as an option through RSC Open Science. Published research will have very high visibility: from launch until December 2013, all content will be freely available online for all readers via the website. Additionally, chemical structures and data contained in the journal will be integrated with ChemSpider, the RSC’s free chemical structure database. Authors with research that they would like to be considered for the first issues of Toxicology Research can submit online at www.rsc.org/toxicology.

*An Accepted Manuscript is an unedited and unformatted version of an article that is published shortly after acceptance. It is available as a downloadable pdf file. It is then replaced by the fully edited and formatted Advance Article.
