It might have rained almost continuously during the ACS Fall 2010 National Meeting in Boston, but it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the 14,000+ people there for the event. Of those who visited the Exhibition Hall, not many could have failed to notice the striking pink colour theme on the RSC booth.
Delegates browsed the books and journals on display, celebrated new journal Chemical Science and the other latest product launches, and learned how the RSC is committed to investing in the advancement of the chemical sciences. 30 journals, from across the chemical sciences, revealed opportunities for international scientists to read or publish the latest research. Visitors also learned about the benefits of registering for a personal account on the new e-platform, including: free access to new journals; the ability to save searches and create custom alerting; and much more. The competition to win an Apple iPad proved very popular: the winner, selected at random from the correct entries, was Professor Ekkehard Sinn from Western Michigan University, USA.
The correct answers revealed that:
- In 2009, RSC donated more than 53 million dollars to charitable activities and programmes to advance the chemical sciences
- 90% of RSC journals have an Impact Factor greater than 3
- 65 scientists will receive RSC Prizes and Awards in 2010
- RSC members come from more than 70 countries
