Newly announced, the RSC Desktop Seminar Series continues with a selection of events focused on The Interface of Chemistry & Biology.

Jointly supported by RSC Chemical Biology, RSC Advances, ChemComm, Chemical Science, and Molecular Omics, these seminars will feature authors and Editorial Board members from each of these journals discussing their research in areas that blend the fields of chemistry and biology.

Biomaterials Science Lectureship 2023 Nominations Now Open

The Biomaterials Science Lectureship has recognized early career researchers in the field of biomaterials since 2014, spotlighting these outstanding scientists’ contributions to the field. The nomination period for the 2023 Lectureship is now open, closing on December 31^st 2022.

To be nominated, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

Be an independent researcher, PhD students and postdoctoral research associates are not eligible
Be actively pursuing research within the biomaterials field, and have made a significant contribution to the field
Be at an early stage of their independent career (this should typically be within 12 years of attaining their doctorate or equivalent degree, but appropriate consideration will be given to those who have taken a career break, work in systems where their time period to independence may vary or who followed an alternative study path)

2022 Energy & Environmental Science Lectureship Nominations Open

Nominations for the 2022 Energy & Environmental Science Lectureship are now open!

The Lectureship is to recognize and support researchers in the early stage of their independent career working in an energy research topic within the scope of Energy & Environmental Science, and provide a platform to showcase their research to a wider scientific community. The EES Lectureship is awarded through a nominations process, with nominations of candidates open to the community.

The winner of the EES Lectureship will receive a £1,000 honorarium and will be given the opportunity to attend and present their research at a leading international conference, as well as contribute a Review-type article to Energy & Environmental Science.

The criteria for the Lectureship are:

The candidate’s research area must be within the scope of Energy & Environmental Science
Shortlisted candidates must have published in Energy & Environmental Science in the past 3 years
Candidates should be at an early stage of their independent career (generally within 10 years of attaining their doctorate or equivalent degree, but appropriate consideration will be given to those who have taken a career break, for example for childcare leave, or followed an alternative study path).

Materials Science Emerging Investigators

The Journals of Materials Chemistry A, B, and C recently released their 2022 Emerging Investigators collections, highlighting the best work from materials chemists in the early stages of their independent career. These collections cover the research areas of energy and sustainability (JMC-A), biology and medicine (JMC-B), and optical, magnetic, and electronic devices (JMC-C).

The contributing investigators were selected by experts in their fields and were chosen based on the potential of their work to influence the future directions of materials chemistry throughout their forthcoming careers.

Peer Review Week 2022

This week (September 19-23, 2022) is Peer Review Week, an annual event celebrating and discussing the role of peer review in scholarly communication. This year’s theme is “Research Integrity: Creating and supporting trust in research,” and the posts, webinars, and resources shared this week will cover this vitally important aspect of peer review.

Congratulations to the RSC Best Poster Prize Winners at the 2022 Tri-Institutional Chemical Biology Symposium

The Royal Society of Chemistry, through Chemical Science, Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry, and RSC Chemical Biology, was pleased to support the Tri-Institutional Ph.D. Program in Chemical Biology‘s 18th annual symposium, held on Thursday, September 8th, 2022.

The symposium featured a poster session with submissions from researchers across the academic spectrum, with outstanding presenters receiving the Royal Society of Chemistry Best Poster Prize. These exemplary winners were recognized in-person at the symposium and will receive a £50 book voucher from the Royal Society of Chemistry.

The outstanding scientific work conducted by the journal lectureship award winners will be featured at a series of free, virtual seminars, with the 2022 RSC Desktop Seminar Lectureship Series beginning soon. Each session will highlight two scientific talks from either two recent lectureship award winners, or one recent winner and a journal board member.

Updated Impact Factors in 2021

Each year, Clarivate releases the Journal Citation Report (JCR), containing updated impact factors for peer-reviewed journals. In 2021, RSC showed great increases in impact factor across much of the portfolio, with some of the largest growth and highest impact journals shown in the graphic above. Furthermore, many of our journals now stand at their 5-year (and all-time) high!

In addition to this advance, we are also excited to announce that our new journal, RSC Medicinal Chemistry, has received its first impact factor (3.47) – a milestone that requires a certain number of articles and citations gathered over the first two or four years of its publication. You can learn more about how impact factors are calculated and the variables that determine its first issuance on the Clarivate webpage. Another of our new journals, Nanoscale Advances, showed a >20% increase over its first impact factor that was released in 2020! A full report of RSC journals’ impact is available here (Clarivate subscription required).

We are happy to share our performance in this year’s JCR, and we look forward to carrying this growth into the future.
