Ten Years of Journal of Materials Chemistry A, B, and C !

When the Journal of Materials Chemistry became three separate titles in 2013, it represented a fantastic opportunity to grow the scope of the journal and provide dedicated homes for for all kinds of ground-breaking and impactful research.

In the ten years since then, the Journal of Materials Chemistry A, B, and C have published over 45,000 articles across the breadth of materials science, serving as high impact homes for research in the areas of energy and sustainability, biology and medicine, and optical, magnetic and electronic devices.

To celebrate the tenth anniversary, the JMCs will be publishing special anniversary issues, as well as many other celebrations on the journals’ Twitter and Facebook pages. To kick off the festivities, read the Editors-in-Chief’s introductory Editorial published in journals’ first issues of 2023.

Congratulations again to the past ten years of the Journal of Materials Chemistry A, B, and C, and we look forward to many more fantastic years in the future!

Congratulations to the 2022 Journal of Materials Chemistry Lectureship Winners

We would like to congratulate the recently announced winner of the 2022 Journal of Materials Chemistry Lectureship, as well as the two runner-up recipients. The Lectureship recognizes early career researchers who have made significant contributions within the field of materials chemistry, with nominations collected from the community and final winner selected by Advisory and Editorial board members from the Journal of Materials Chemistry A, B, and C.

The winner of the Lectureship receives £1,000 toward travel and accommodation costs to attend and present at a leading international meeting, as well as invitation to contribute to one of the Journal of Materials Chemistry journals and a complementary issue cover for the issue in which the article appears.

The winner of the 2022 Journal of Materials Chemistry Lectureship is Professor Sahika Inal, an Associate Professor of Bioengineering at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). Her research group explores the functionalities of organic electronic materials, ionic/electronic charge transport, and biologically-focused electronic devices.

 

We would also like to recognize the two runners-up for the 2022 Journal of Materials Chemistry Lectureship: Professor Luisa Whittaker-Brooks (University of Utah, USA) and Dr. Jessica Wade (Imperial College, UK).

Read the First Accepted Articles in Sustainable Food Technology

We are proud to announce that the first accepted articles for the Royal Society of Chemistry’s new journal, Sustainable Food Technology, are now available to read for everyone. Sustainable Food Technology is a Gold Open Access journal focused on food engineering and technologies, especially sustainable and environmentally conscious ways to provide safe and high-quality food.

2023 Polymer Chemistry Lectureship Nominations Open

We are pleased to announce that the nomination period for the 2023 Polymer Chemistry Lectureship is now open, and will continue until February 28th, 2023.

The annual award recognizes an early-state researcher who has made significant contributions to the field of polymer chemistry. Celebrating WesTEC 2022 with Dow Canada

The Royal Society of Chemistry was proud to again support and celebrate the 31st Western Canada Operations Technical Excellence Conference (WesTEC), hosted by Dow Chemical, which is also marking its 125th anniversary.

This year’s theme of “Mapping the Path2Zero,” highlights the essential role of companies in addressing climate change by moving towards a goal of net zero emissions. Dow has committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, and has already unveiled their plans to build a first of its kind net zero carbon integrated ethylene cracker and derivatives site in Fort Saskatchewan. As in previous years, the 2022 WesTEC was an opportunity to highlight the outstanding work in this area being done at Dow Canada, and the Royal Society of Chemistry was glad to be a part of that recognition.

The Royal Society of Chemistry was thrilled to sponsor two awards at the 2022 WesTEC: Best Presentation: Nail Hagar, as well as Best Exhibit: Pabbi Grover and Jordan Gabert. Congratulations to all three winners!

Dr. Lee is pictured below with Dr. Jim Luong, R&D Fellow Dow Canada and current Analytical Methods Advisory Board member. Dr. Lee was honored at the 2022 WestTEC, where he delivered an award address to attendees sharing his wisdom gained throughout his distinguished career.

RSC Desktop Seminar with Dalton Transactions

We are pleased to announce an upcoming webinar in the RSC Desktop Seminar series that will be hosted with Dalton Transactions.

The free, 1 hour webinar will be chaired by the Editorial Board Chair of Dalton Transactions, Professor Russell Morris (University of St Andrews, UK), and will feature two research talks on the field of metal-organic frameworks:

Biomaterials Science Lectureship 2023 Nominations Now Open

The Biomaterials Science Lectureship has recognized early career researchers in the field of biomaterials since 2014, spotlighting these outstanding scientists’ contributions to the field. The nomination period for the 2023 Lectureship is now open, closing on December 31st 2022.

To be nominated, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be an independent researcher, PhD students and postdoctoral research associates are not eligible
  • Be actively pursuing research within the biomaterials field, and have made a significant contribution to the field
  • Be at an early stage of their independent career (this should typically be within 12 years of attaining their doctorate or equivalent degree, but appropriate consideration will be given to those who have taken a career break, work in systems where their time period to independence may vary or who followed an alternative study path)

2022 Energy & Environmental Science Lectureship Nominations Open

Nominations for the 2022 Energy & Environmental Science Lectureship are now open!

The Lectureship is to recognize and support researchers in the early stage of their independent career working in an energy research topic within the scope of Energy & Environmental Science, and provide a platform to showcase their research to a wider scientific community. The EES Lectureship is awarded through a nominations process, with nominations of candidates open to the community.

The winner of the EES Lectureship will receive a £1,000 honorarium and will be given the opportunity to attend and present their research at a leading international conference, as well as contribute a Review-type article to Energy & Environmental Science.

The criteria for the Lectureship are:

  • The candidate’s research area must be within the scope of Energy & Environmental Science
  • Shortlisted candidates must have published in Energy & Environmental Science in the past 3 years
  • Candidates should be at an early stage of their independent career (generally within 10 years of attaining their doctorate or equivalent degree, but appropriate consideration will be given to those who have taken a career break, for example for childcare leave, or followed an alternative study path).
