PCCP Poster Prize winners – Operando IV Conference

We are delighted to announce the winners of the PCCP Poster prizes which were awarded at the Operando IV Conference – Recent Developments and Future Perspectives in Spectroscopy of Working Catalysts which took place at the Brookhaven National Laboratory, NY, USA in May 2012.

The 1st PCCP Poster prize winner was Isabel Green from the University of Virginia and the 2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to Shilpa Agarwal, (University of Twente) and Javier Ruiz-Martinez, (Utrecht University). All prizes were presented by the Conference Chair Dr Simon R. Bare (UOP, LLC, a Honeywell Company).

PCCP Poster Prize 2012 – TULIP

We are delighted to announce the winner of the PCCP Poster prize which was awarded to Christine Hahn (Leiden Institute of Chemistry) for her poster entitled ‘Employing a Ni Cylindrical Single Crystal in Studies of D2 Dissociation on Steps’.

The runner up was Simona Strazdaite (FOM Institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics) for her poster ‘Water Dynamics Near Hydrophobic Membranes’.

The prize was presented at the TULIP2012: Modern Developments in Spectroscopy summer school which was held from the 10-13th April, 2012 in Noordwijk, The Netherlands.

2012 PCCP – Chemical Society of Japan Prizes

We are delighted to announce the following winners of the 2012 PCCP Prizes for Outstanding Achievement of Young Scientists in Physical Chemistry and Chemical Physics.

Dr. Shuhei Furukawa  (Kyoto University), Dr. Kazuhiko Maeda (The University of Tokyo) and Dr. Satoshi Maeda (Kyoto University) who were all awarded with a commemorative book, a PCCP Prize certificate and a financial award.

The Prizes were presented by Professor Yasuhiro Iwasawa, CSJ President and PCCP Advisory Board member and Dr Niamh O’Connor, PCCP Publisher at the “International Chemists’ Evening” reception held during the 92nd Chemical Society Japan (CSJ) Annual Meeting in March.

German Bunsen-Society Prize: Nominations Open

Deutsche Bunsen-Gesellschaft für Physikalische Chemie
awards the

Nernst-Haber-Bodenstein Prize 2013

in memory of Max Bodenstein, Fritz Haber and Walter Nernst. The prize will be presented at the 112th Annual General Meeting of the German Bunsen-Society from 9 -11 May 2013 in Karlsruhe.

The prize will be awarded to a distinguished younger scientist (of up to 40 years of age) for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of physical chemistry. Suitable candidates of international visibility in their research field will be evaluated by a high level expert selection panel with respect to the scientific quality, originality and independence of their research. Candidates should come from a German-speaking region of Europe or work there at the time of their nomination.

Nominations from established scientists in the area of physical chemistry should include a short CV of the candidate, an overview of the candidate’s scientific achievements and publications, and a supporting statement.

Nominations should be submitted by 1 October 2012 to:

Theoretical Chemistry Group Poster Prizes

PCCP was delighted to sponsor two ‘PCCP Poster Prizes’ at the RSC Theoretical Chemistry Group Conference which was held at the University of Nottingham, June 27th – 29th 2011. Visit their website to find out more about the conference and the groups activities.

The winners were David Mandive-Tapia (Imperial College London) for a poster entitled “Controlling the mechanism of fulvene S1/S0 decay” and Ragnar Bjornsson (St Andrews) for his poster on “The conformational properties of a flexible zwitterion, 3F-GABA, in solution: QM/MM MD simulations”.

PCCP Poster Prize at FEMTO10

PCCP was delighted to sponsor the FEMTO10 conference held in July in Madrid, Spain. FEMTO10 is the 10th Edition of the Femtochemistry Conferences.

PCCP was delighted to award a student Poster Prize at the meeting – congratulations to Jan P. Kraack from the Universität Heidelberg, Germany who won with his poster on ‘Ground- and excited state vibrational coherence dynamics in all-trans retinal protonates Schiff-bases investigated with (pump) DFWM’.

PCCP will also be publishing a themed issue on Ultrafast Chemical Dynamics later in 2012. It will be Guest Edited by Neil T. Hunt (University of Strathclyde) and Klaas Wynne (University of Glasgow).

PCCP Poster Prize at Free Radicals Symposium

PCCP was delighted to sponsor the 31st Symposium on Free Radicals, held last week in Port Douglas, Australia, where a PCCP student Poster Prize was awarded.

The symposium was chaired by Evan Bieske and Scott Kable and around 100 scientific participants attended the meeting, along with their families. The strong scientific activity was reflected through 35 talks and 60 poster presentations. The meeting had 80 scientists from Japan, Taiwan, USA and Europe, and around 20 from Australia.

Congratulations to James Ge who was awarded with the PCCP Student Prize.

PCCP Poster Prize at CASE 2011

PCCP was delighted to sponsor a poster prize at the Catalysis and Sensing for our Environment symposium (CASE 2011) in Birmingham last week.

Congratulations to Abhishek Kardam (Dayalbagh Educational Institute, India) who won the PCCP Prize. Abhishek was awarded at prize certificate as well as an RSC book.
