Analyst issue 6 is now published online with three exciting articles featured on the covers!
The front cover of this issue highlights work by Jin Cheng and colleagues from Tsinghua University and the National Engineering Research Centre for Beijing Biochip Technology, China. The group developed an electrical cell-substrate impedance sensing system for assessing in vitro cytotoxicity of anticancer drugs in a human kidney cell model. This system allowed for continuous and automatic measurements with a better resolution for drugs with different toxicity profiles.
Use of cellular electrical impedance sensing to assess in vitro cytotoxicity of anticancer drugs in a human kidney cell nephrotoxicity model, Fengbo Xie, Youchun Xu, Lei Wang, Keith Mitchelson, Wanli Xing and Jing Cheng, Analyst, 2012, 137, 1343-1350
The inside front cover features work by Jun-Jie Zhu and colleagues from Nanjing University, China, who report a label-free, electrochemical method to detect folate receptor positive tumour cells using poly-dopamine-coated carbon nanotubes. This sensor was shown to be very sensitive (able to detect at levels as low as 500 cells), and more robust compared to other systems.
A label-free cytosensor for the enhanced electrochemical detection of cancer cells using polydopamine-coated carbon nanotubes, Ting-Ting Zheng, Rui Zhang, Lanfang Zou and Jun-Jie Zhu, Analyst, 2012, 137, 1316-1318
Both of these articles can also be found in our online collection on Future Electroanalytical Developments.
The back cover of this issue showcases work by Grace Credo, Rashid Bashir, Madoo Varma and co-workers from the USA, who have developed a method for the label-free electrical detection of polymerase reactions on DNA. They use a chelator-modified silicon-on-insulator field-effect transistor which exhibits a selective and reversible electrical response to pyrophosphate anions.
Label-free electrical detection of pyrophosphate generated from DNA polymerase reactions on field-effect devices, Grace M. Credo, Xing Su, Kai Wu, Oguz H. Elibol, David J. Liu, Bobby Reddy, Ta-Wei Tsai, Brian R. Dorvel, Jonathan S. Daniels, Rashid Bashir and Madoo Varma, Analyst, 2012, 137, 1351-1362
