Introducing the minireview article type to RSC Applied Interfaces!

We are delighted to announce the addition of the minireview article type to RSC Applied Interfaces. This new article type presents the opportunity to highlight exciting advances in all fields of interface science and provides valuable insights to our community. Hear from our Editor-in-Chief, Professor Federico Rossi:

“I am excited about the addition of mini reviews to the types of manuscripts we publish. The added variety will be useful for authors and readers alike”.

What is a mini review?

Minireviews are highlights or summaries of research in an emerging area, typically covering recently published material from the last 2-3 years. These reviews are not intended to be comprehensive reviews of the field, rather report on important, recent developments in a specific field. This article type may include brief speculation of possible future developments in the field in the conclusions section.

Why should you consider submitting a mini review?

  • This type of review presents an avenue to analyse and highlight important, recent developments in specific research fields, which may be too niche to be captured in larger more comprehensive reviews.
  • Minireviews are shorter in length than ordinary review articles and therefore can be completed in a shorter time frame.
  • Minireviews offer the opportunity to fill knowledge and topic gaps more easily by providing a platform to highlight recent advances in niche topic areas otherwise missing from the broad overviews given in full reviews.

Minireview Guidelines

Length: Minireviews should be between 3-8 journal pages in length. If you are unsure whether your article is suitable as a minireview, get in touch with our editorial office here.

Abstract: This should be short and snappy (approximately 100 words).

Biography and Photograph: A biography of no more than 100 words per author should be included in addition to a photo of each author.

Submissions: Minireviews can be submitted through our online submission platform here.
