We are delighted to welcome Professor Núria López as our newest Catalysis Science & Technology Associate Editor.

Núria López, Institut Català d’Investigació Quimíca, Spain

Nuria LopezNúria López graduated in Chemistry (1999) and got her Ph.D. degree in Theoretical Chemistry at the University of Barcelona, Spain (1995). As a postdoctoral researcher, she joined the Center for Atomic-scale Materials Physics led by Prof. Jens K. Nørskov (Denmark). In 2005 she started her independent career at ICIQ. Her research group focuses on the theoretical research in heterogeneous photo-electro-catalysis.

Prof. López has co-authored over 200 scientific publications. In 2010 she was awarded an ERC Starting Grant (2010) and then an ERC Proof-of-concept (2015) by the European Research Council. She was awarded a “Prize for Excellence” by the Real Sociedad Española de Química in 2015. She has collaborated with several industries in Europe to leverage atomistic modelling, participated in 9 EU projects and served in several committees in the European Union, including the most important supercomputing initiatives in Europe (where she was Chair of PRACE‘s Scientific Steering Committee).

As a Catalysis Science & Technology Associate Editor, Professor Núria López will provide her expertise in particular in the fields of:

Welcoming new Catalysis Science & Technology Associate Editors: Bin Liu & Andrew Weller

We are delighted to welcome Professor Bin Liu and Professor Andrew Weller as our newest Catalysis Science & Technology Associate Editors.

Bin LiuBin Liu, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

Bin received his B.Eng. (1st Class Honours) and M.Eng. degrees in Chemical Engineering from the National University of Singapore in 2002 and 2004 respectively, and obtained his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Minnesota in 2011. Thereafter, he moved to University of California, Berkeley, and worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Department of Chemistry during 2011 – 2012, before joining School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at Nanyang Technological University as an Assistant Professor in 2012. He is now an Associate Professor at Nanyang Technological University.

As a Catalysis Science & Technology Associate Editor, Professor Bin Liu will provide his expertise in particular in the fields of:

  • Electrocatalysis
  • Energy conversion
  • Operando in situ methods

Andrew Weller, University of York, UK

Andrew Weller is Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of York, UK. Prior to this he was Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oxford for 13 years. He moved to Oxford in 2007, after starting his independent career at the University Bath in 1999 as a Royal Society University Research Fellow. He is currently a holder of an EPSRC Established Career Fellowship, and was recipient of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Frankland and Dalton Transactions European Lectureship awards.

His research focus is on the organometallic chemistry of the transition metals and homogeneous catalysis. In particular, he develops organometallic complexes that are “operationally unsaturated”, that lead to highly efficient, selective, catalysts for a wide variety of important bond activation processes in both solution and single-crystalline phases.

As a Catalysis Science & Technology Associate Editor, Professor Andrew Weller will provide his expertise in particular in the fields of:

  • Homogeneous catalysis
  • Organometallic chemistry

Chris WilliamsProfessor Williams received a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Delaware in 1993 and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University in 1997. Following a post doctoral appointment in the Physical and Theoretical Chemistry Department at Oxford University, he joined the faculty in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of South Carolina and is currently a Professor. His research interests are in the area of heterogeneous catalysis and surface science, with a particular emphases on studying solid-liquid catalytic interfaces with in-situ/operando spectroscopy and developing novel synthetic approaches to producing bimetallic catalysts for a variety of applications.

Jinhua YeJinhua Ye received her PhD from the University of Tokyo in 1990, and joined National Research Institute for Metals (former NIMS) in 1991. She is now a Principle Investigator and the Field Coordinator of Nano-Power Field at International Center for Materials Nanoarchitectonics (MANA), National Institute of Materials Science (NIMS), and a Professor of Joint Doctoral Program in Graduate School of Chemical Science and Engineering, Hokkaido University, Japan. She is also the appointed director of TU-NIMS Joint Research Center, and Professor of Materials Science at Tianjin University, China.

Her research interests focus on the research and development of novel photocatalytic materials and their applications in the fields of environment remediation and solar to chemical energy conversion.

Will Medlin received his Bachelors in chemical engineering from Clemson University in 1996 and his PhD from the University of Delaware in 2001. After conducting postdoctoral research at Sandia National Laboratories, he joined the chemical and biological engineering department at the University of Colorado, where he is currently the Denver Business Challenge Endowed Professor.

His research interests are in the area of heterogeneous catalysis and surface science, with particular emphases on investigations of catalytic chemistry on well-defined surfaces, and on controlling the near-surface environment of heterogeneous catalysts with organic monolayers and thin films.

11th International Conference on Environmental Catalysis

University of Manchester6th – 9th September 2020, Manchester, UK

The ICEC, which was first held in Pisa in 1995 has had a major influence on the development of catalytic solutions to address global environment issues such as air and water pollution, green synthesis and more efficient use of energy. It was last held in the UK in Belfast in 2008 and we welcome colleagues from around the world back to the UK to participate in this conference and exchange research to further our knowledge and impact of environmental catalysis. As with previous conferences, it will consist of a number of plenary talks coupled with parallel oral and poster sessions.

Associate Editor Paul Kamer has selected some outstanding research to share with you from Catalysis Science & Technology. Read them now for free until the end of December 2019!

Paul Kamer obtained a degree in biochemistry at the University of Amsterdam and did his PhD in physical organic chemistry at the University of Utrecht. As a postdoctoral fellow of the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF) he carried out postdoctoral research at the California Institute of Technology and the University of Leiden. He was appointed Lecturer at the University of Amsterdam and full Professor of homogeneous catalysis in 2005. In 2005 he received a Marie Curie Excellence Grant and moved to the University of St Andrews. His current research interests are (asymmetric) homogeneous catalysis, biocatalysis, combinatorial synthesis, and artificial metalloenzymes. In 2017 he moved to the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis at the University of Rostock..

Chinese Chemical Society 10th National Conference on Inorganic Chemistry Prize Winners

Catalysis Science & Technology would like to say a big congratulations to the winners of the poster prizes at the Chinese Chemical Society 10th National Conference on Inorganic Chemistry held in China on 18 – 21 August 2019.

Over 2000 delegates attended the conference and  Catalysis Science & Technology along with sister Royal Society of Chemistry journals Energy & Environmental Science, Green Chemistry, PCCP  and Sustainable Energy & Fuels were delighted to award a total of 15 poster prizes as pictured below.
