Soft Matter Prize Winners at 26th Symposium of the Research Group on Polymer Gels

Congratulations go to Matsushita Takuto, Michika Onoda and Kenta Kokado who all won Soft Matter sponsored prizes at the 26th Symposium of the Research Group on Polymer Gels, The Society of Polymer Science held in Tokyo, Japan on 19th-20th January 2015.

The Soft Matter poster award was won by Matsushita Takuto who is based at the University of Tokyo, Japan.

The Soft Matter Presentation Award was awarded to Assistant Professor Kenta Kokado who is based at Hokkaido University. Kenta’s research interests are organic and polymer synthesis.

Michika Onoda won the Soft Matter Student Presentation Award. Michika works at the University of Tokyo, Japan.

Poster Prize winner at the 9th Liquid Matter Conference

9th Liquid Matter Conference

Congratulations to Susan James (National University of Ireland, Maynooth) who was awarded a Soft Matter poster prize at Liquids 2014, held in Lisbon, Portugal on 21-25th July 2014. Her winning poster was entitled ‘Effect of mutagenesis on the phase transitions of human gamma-D crystallin’.

Conference Physics of Complex Colloids – Soft Matter Poster Prize Winners

The Soft Matter best poster prize committee (Prof. Daan Frenkel, University of Cambridge, UK; Prof. Gerhard Kahl, Technische Universitaet Wien, Austria; and Prof. Christos N. Likos, Universitaet Wien, Austria) awarded the prizes at the Conference Physics of Complex Colloids in Ljubljana on 14th – 18th March 2013:
Matthew Blow – Flexoelectric and order-electric switching between nematic wetting morphologies

Vera de Oliveira Batista – A lattice-Boltzmann study of semi-permeable colloids

The Impact and Future of Scattering Techniques in Soft Matter Conference – Soft Matter Poster Prize Winners

Soft Matter was delighted to award two Poster Prizes at the The Impact and Future of Scattering Techniques in Soft Matter Conference held in Oxford, UK on 18th – 19th March. The winners were:

First prize:

Miss Wanatchaporn Arunmanee
“Unravelling the interaction of bacterial toxin with the specific receptor by EM and neutron scattering”

Each student received a Soft Matter Poster Prize certificate as well as 1 year electronic subscription to the journal. The first prize winner was also awarded a Kindle Fire kindly donated by the Diamond Light Source.

Soft Matter poster prize winners at the 2012 AIChE Annual Meeting

Congratulations to the poster prize winners at the 2012 AIChE Annual Meeting, Emerging Areas in Polymer Science and Engineering.

The two winners were Saber Naserifar (University of Southern California) and Xiao Wang (University of Akron). Both winners won a years online subscription to Soft Matter.

Saber Naserifar – “Simulations of the Pyrolysis of Hydridopolycarbosilane (HPCS) Polymer Using Reactive Force Fields”

Xiao Wang – “Mechanical and Electrical Properties of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes / Syndiotactic Polystyrene Composite Aerogels”

The 2012 AIChE Annual Meeting was held October 28 – November 2, 2012 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Pittsburgh, USA.

Soft Matter poster prize winners at Gelsympo2012

Congratulations to the poster prize winners at the 9th International Gel Symposium 2012!

The four joint winners were Tasuku Nakajima (Hokkaido University), Xiang Li (The University of Tokyo), Eri Kawamura (Tokyo University of Science) and Shinji Sugiura (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology) (not pictured). Each winner won a year’s online subscription to either Soft Matter, Journal of Materials Chemistry or Polymer Chemistry. The Biomaterials Science winner won a free copy of ‘Healthy, Wealthy, Sustainable World’ by John Emsley from RSC books.

Soft Matter Poster Prize

Congratulations to Dr. Michele Griffa for winning a Soft Matter poster prize at the conference ‘Micro-structure, setting and aging of cement: from soft-matter physics to sustainable materials.’

His winning poster was titled “Nonlinear Mesoscopic Elasticity and microstructural developments in cement-based materials due to micro-damage processes”.

Dr. Michele Griffa works at the Concrete and Construction Chemistry Laboratory Empa Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology.
