RSC Applied Interfaces publishes interdisciplinary work with an applied focus, which can be read for free here. To celebrate the excellent articles that have been published so far in our journal, we asked some of our authors to discuss their work in more detail.
In this post, we hear from Eswaraiah Varrla at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, as they discuss their recently published article entitled ‘Sustainable high-yield h-BN nanosheet production by liquid exfoliation for thermal interface materials‘.
Meet the authors
Dr Eswaraiah Varrla is an associate professor in the Department of Physics and Nanotechnology at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur campus since Feb 2025. He was an Assistant Professor at same institute, between 2017 and 2024. He received the B.Sc. degree from Sri Ramakrishna Degree College, Nandyal, India in 2005, and MSc Physics from Sri Venkateswara University Tirupathi, India in 2007 and PhD degree from the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India, in 2012. Prior to joining as a faculty, he worked at Trinity College Dublin Ireland and Nanyang Technological University Singapore as a postdoc during 2012-2017 in the field of 2D materials. He is the author of 40 original publications and the inventor/co-inventor of 5 issued patents on novel nanomaterials. His research areas are, materials engineering, thermal interface materials and thermal management, colloidal science and interface science, barrier coatings and functional and energy materials. He received Young Scientist Award from Academy of Sciences Chennai, India and from Singapore (GCDEM) in Physical Sciences for research contributions. His research is supported by Institute, DST, Govt of India and Industry. See LinkedIn profile here. |
Ms Vanmathi R completed her MSc in Physics in 2019 at SRM Institute of Science and Technology and has been pursuing her PhD there since 2019. Her research focuses on developing thermal interface materials using 2D materials, with expertise in nanomaterial synthesis, thermal conductivity measurement, and thermal management applications. She has published original papers, received awards such as ACS Best Poster Award at AsiaNANO 2024 and DST-ITS Travel Grant, and has hands-on experience with advanced instruments for material characterization and thermal analysis.
