International Solar Fuels Conference 2021

We are delighted to support the International Solar Fuels conference 2021, organized by the Royal Society of Chemistry in conjunction with the University of Grenoble and Uppsala University. This conference will take place online from the 26th – 29th July 2021.

The main conference will be preceded by the Young conference, which aims to give as many young researchers as possible the opportunity to present. This will also include keynote talks from mentoring experts, and careers advice from the Royal Society of Chemistry.

The programme will explore all aspects of direct solar fuel production, combining biological, molecular and solid state approaches. The main themes include:

  • Multi-electron/multi-proton catalysis (homogeneous, heterogeneous, enzymatic and bioinspired processes)
  • Light-harvesting and light-driven processes
  • Photoelectrochemistry
  • Photobiological approaches
  • Metabolic engineering
  • Devices and demonstration: robustness, sustainability and upscale

Announcing the new Editor-in-Chief of Sustainable Energy & Fuels – Garry Rumbles

Announcing Garry Rumbles as Sustainable Energy & Fuels Editor-in-ChiefGarry Rumbles is a Senior Research Fellow in the Chemistry and Nanoscience Center at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and an adjoint Professor of Chemistry at the University of Colorado Boulder. More widely, he is the Associate Director for Research in the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute (RASEI), a joint energy institute between NREL and the University, and holds a visiting Professorial Chair at Imperial College, London. Garry is a photochemist and physical chemist whose research focusses on the harvesting of solar energy for the production of electricity, fuels and chemicals in molecular and polymeric systems.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our previous, and founding, Editor-in-Chief, Professor James Durrant, for his service to the journal. James says: “As Editor-in-Chief I am proud to have overseen the establishment and growth of Sustainable Energy & Fuels since its launch four years ago and am delighted that Garry Rumbles is now taking over the role. I very much look forward to seeing the journal develop further under his excellent leadership.”

New Themed Issue – Organic Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage

We are delighted to highlight the latest Sustainable Energy & Fuels themed issue on Organic Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage.

Guest Edited by Emilio Palomares (ICIQ and ICREA) and Juan Luis Delgado (Ikerbasque and Polymat), this issue showcases studies on the recent progress and challenges in the field of organic, inorganic and hybrid materials for energy conversion. This includes advances in photovoltaics, solar to fuels conversion, and catalysis for sustainable energy applications. You can read our Editorial introducing this issue here.

HOPE-PV20 – Sustainable Energy & Fuels Prize Winners

Sustainable Energy & Fuels (SEF) was delighted to sponsor prizes at the nanoGe 2nd School on Hybrid, Organic and Perovskite Photovoltaics (HOPE-PV20), which took place online from the 3rd – 5th November 2020.

The SEF Best Oral Presentation Prize was awarded to Aleksandra Boldyreva (Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology) for her presentation on ‘Exploring the radiation stability of perovskite solar cells’.

The SEF ePoster prize was awarded to Maria Mikheeva (D. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia) for her work on ‘Effect of Partial Pb2+ Substitution with Ca2+ on the Stability and Photovoltaic Performance of All-inorganic CsPbI3 Perovskite’.

IPEROP20 – Sustainable Energy & Fuels Poster Prize Winner

The nanoGe IPEROP20 conference was held last month in Tsukuba, Japan from the 20th to 22nd of January 2020.

Sustainable Energy & Fuels (SEF) was delighted to sponsor a poster prize at the conference. The SEF poster prize was awarded to Simone Mastroianni (Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems) for his poster entitled “Double-Mesoscopic HTM-Free Perovskite Solar Cells: Overcoming Charge Transport Limitation by Sputtered 40 nm Al2O3 Isolation Layer”.

The poster prize was presented to Simone by the Royal Society of Chemistry’s representative, May Copsey.

NECEM International Conference on Energy Materials and Interfaces Poster Prize Winners

The NECEM International Conference on Energy Materials and Interfaces was held at Newcastle University from Monday 29th July to Thursday 1st August.

Energy & Environmental Science (EES) and Sustainable Energy & Fuels (SEF) sponsored a poster prize each for the event. Both poster prizes were presented to the winners by the Royal Society of Chemistry’s, Carri Cotton.

The EES prize was awarded to David Alejandro Palacios Gomez and the SEF was awarded to Wei-Hsiang Lin. Congratulations to both winners.

3rd International Solar Fuels Conference (ISF-3) and International Conference on Artificial Photosynthesis-2019 (ICARP2019)

We are pleased to announce that Sustainable Energy & Fuels will be sponsoring the 3rd International Solar Fuels Conference (ISF-3) and the International Conference on Artificial Photosynthesis-2019 (ICARP2019). The meeting will be held in Hiroshima Convention Hall, Hiroshima City, Japan from November 20 to 24, 2019.

Topics at the conference include, but are not limited to:

– Artificial photosynthetic systems including water-oxidation, H2 production, and CO2 reduction

– Molecular photocatalysts and semiconductor photocatalysts

– Light-harvesting and photochemical charge separation

– Mechanisms of natural photosynthesis

International Conference on Energy Materials and Interfaces

 

International Conference on Energy Materials and Interfaces to be held at Newcastle University, starting on 29 July  – 1 August 2019

The EPSRC North East Centre for Energy Materials (NECEM) unites a broad range of expertise across academia and industry to address the most fundamentally critical aspects of energy systems. In 2019 NECEM will be hosting the International Conference on Energy Materials and Interfaces at Newcastle University from Monday 29th July to Thursday 1st August. The topics for this conference include:

  1. Flexible photovoltaics
  2. Thermoelectric devices
  3. Computational simulations of interfaces in energy capture devices
  4. Applications of 2D materials in energy capture and storage
  5. Tailored interfaces in turbines
  6. New concepts in electrical and electrochemical energy storage

The conference will play out to a total of 200 attendees over three full days.

The main conference will begin on Tuesday 30th July 2019 and will be prefaced by a welcome reception held on the Monday evening.
