HOT Article: Studying neurodegenerative diseases

Lim & Storr et al., Metallomics, 2012, Advance Article

Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease are defined by a gradual loss of neuronal cell populations and protein aggregation. Mi Hee Lim and Tim Storr, from the University of Michigan and Simon Fraser University, respectively, have been studying metal-induced amyloid-β (Aβ) aggregation. Together with colleagues they have been looking at dual-function triazole–pyridine derivatives that can act as inhibitors to this Aβ aggregation.
