Congratulations to Robert ter Halle who was awarded the Catalysis Science & Technology poster prize for his poster on ‘Sustainable biocatalytic processes for the synthesis of pharmaceutical and cosmetic intermediates’, presented at BioTrans2011. The conference of industrial process and development attracted participants from academia and industry from all over Europe focusing on both applied and fundamental aspects of biocatalysis. Robert was awarded both a certificate and a copy of Metal-catalysis in Industrial Organic Processes!

Judging was by eminent trio Prof David Jackson, Prof Ken Waugh & Dr John Casci, who awarded the best poster prize to Helen Daly, from Queens University Belfast.
Helen’s work was entitled ‘The effect of reaction conditions on the stability of Au/CeZrO4 catalysts in the low temperature water gas shift reaction’, and is part of her research in Chris Hardacre’s group in Belfast.
Mike Wood, Vice President of research and development at Davy Process Technology, commented that ‘We were particularly pleased with the quality of all the posters and quantity’
Congratulations to Toritse Bob-Egbe (Imperial College London, UK) for winning the inaugural Catalysis Science & Technology Poster Prize at the recent Dalton Discussion 12 meeting on Catalytic C-H and C-X Bond Activation, which was held in Durham from the 13th-15th September this year.
The title of the Toritse’s winning poster was ‘Development of Chiral 4-(DAAP)-N-oxide Catalysts for the Sulfonylative Kinetic Resolution of Amines’.
